In the late summer of 2017 I learned to dye with indigo instead of black beans. Indigo is a plant that makes gorgeous shades of blues and greens and holds up well in direct sunlight. It might even hold up in the washing machine, but I always hand wash my hand knitted items. Getting various shade with indigo is done not only with multiple dips with the yarn, but also by understanding when the dye pot is finally exhausting. It is such a strong dye that it has been more of a challenge to get the lighter blues!
