These shades of brown are made from 5 different concentrations of black walnut. I use the outer green husk to get the brown dye. Once the husk turns brown on the ground, it has little dye left, so I have to collect the nuts soon after they fall from the tree. Then they can be frozen if I don’t need them right away.
This dye last well for years, even in sunlight and gentle washing.
